Maximizing Profitability in CEA Through Regular Microbiome Testing of Irrigation Water The profit impact of regular microbiome evaluations of irrigation water within controlled environment agriculture (CEA) facilities is extreme. Implementing these checks is crucial for the enhancement of plant wellbeing, food security, and the augmentation of crop yields (Berg, Grube, Schloter, & Smalla, 2014)[^1^]. Advanced microbiome assessments utilizing next-generation sequencing and real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) are instrumental in the early identification of plant pathogens. These include but are not limited to Pythium, Pseudomonas, Xanthomonas, and Fusarium, which are notorious for significantly reducing crop productivity and profitability (Mendes, Garbeva, & Raaijmakers, 2013)[^2^]. Furthermore, other pathogens such as Yeasts, Molds, Hop Latent Viroid-HpLVD, Tomato brown rugose fruit virus (ToBRFV), and Aspergillus also present considerable threats to agricultural outputs. Consistent microbiome monitoring facilitates prompt and efficient interventions thereby averting potential disease outbreaks and crop losses. Besides plant pathogens, human pathogens such as E. coli, Listeria, and Salmonella can also exist in irrigation water. These pathogens have the potential to contaminate crops and pose health risks to consumers (Valério, E., Chaves, S., & Tenreiro, R. (2010))[^3^]. To ensure food safety and compliance with regulatory standards set by authorities like the US Food and Drug Administration, routine sampling and testing are indispensable. To streamline this essential monitoring process, AME Certified PCR Laboratories provides solutions for CEA facilities such as the installation of in-house testing capabilities. This allows the CEA team to conduct tests as required and on a regular monitoring basis.
